While I was taking a walk at The Knob a few weeks ago, I hastily snapped several pictures. I was hoping to take more along the way, but the humidity and crabby baby made me forget entirely that I had even bothered to tote the camera along in my pocket.
These are really the only two pictures I managed to take on my walk. TWO. PICTURES. I'm pretty sure I've taken these exact two snap shots every time I've pulled out my camera at this particular spot... the cute little boats in Quissett Harbor, and Beach Roses.
I decided that since I apparently have an affinity for the boats and roses that I would use them as inspiration for a quick little project. I've had some small wooden frames hanging around for a while and thought I would dress them up, Knob Style.
These little cuties were made by covering the frames with Core'dinations cardstock, then sanding the edges to both smooth them out and reveal a bit of the lighter colored core of the paper for some fun contrast. Both frames feature some paper tearing (to make the sand dunes on the first frame and the roses on the second frame). The roses were made by first punching three different sizes of circles (Marvy) from two shades of pink-ish Core'dinations cardstock, then tearing around the edges, crinkling and sanding for some depth. Layer them up, secure with a brad and stick 'em to the frame... cute and easy!!
For the inside of the rose frame, I simply embossed a flower design with a Cuttlebug embossing folder and my Big Shot, sanded and inserted. The inside of the other frame was made by layering strips of wave punched (Fiskars) and sanded Core'dinations. I added some Stickles glitter glue to each frame for a little shimmer. I like using the Stickles glitter because the glue is mixed right in and I don't have to worry about it rubbing off and contaminating the rest of the house with tiny sparkles.
For the wording on the frames, I tried to mix it up a bit. Using larger alphas for the main titles combined with small letters for the subtitles is both practical ans visually interesting. Because the format I was working with is so small, I chose to stick with colors I had already used on the frames rather than introducing new ones which would have overwhelmed the frames.
I think these little guys would be SO CUTE hanging together on the wall, reminding you that the summer is here and we have lots to be happy about :)
