My days as a stay at home mom are filled with breaking up fights, reshelving books, scrubbing crayon off the kitchen floor and maintaining a proper supply of snacks at all times. Add laundry, housework, cooking and errands and you've got a pretty full schedule. There are also play dates and trips to the library and lunches with friends which are always the highlight of our week... a little adventure here and there provides relief from the confinement of our home as the weather has been too snowy and cold to play outdoors.
Once upon a time I worked outside the home. A lot. With the addition of two little girls and some number crunching, it makes more sense for me to be home with them until they are school age. This makes for many awesome moments as a SAHM. It also leaves a major void in my life. I like being busy. I like interacting with others. I like working.
I've found that I can't "just" be a stay at home mom. I need something for ME. I need to focus on something creative. I like to contribute financially to our family.
Over the last year, I've reinvested myself in making *stuff*. Sewing. Crocheting. Paper crafting. I started a business page on Facebook. I've restocked me etsy shop. I'm making community connections and selling custom work to friends and acquaintances and people who I've never met. I love the feeling of spending some creative time while the girls nap, or sneaking in a few stitches here and there throughout the day. Sharing my creations with people, hearing their positive feedback, searching for new inspiration.... it is all fueling the fire to keep creating. It is making me feel like I have a purpose, a home in the creative community.
Don't get me wrong. I LOVE that I am able to be home raising my girls. Learning and laughing and loving with them every day. Growing and changing and making silly memories together. But I also love that I am finding a healthy balance between being Mama and being ME.
I'd love for you to visit my etsy shop, to "like" my Facebook page... To encourage my growth as a creative being and make connections with new faces and places. I want to have the opportunity to be inspired by YOU.
